Melasma is a common skin condition that causes brown or greyish patches to appear on the skin, often on the cheeks, forehead, nose, and upper lip.  

Melasma occurs when there is an overproduction of melanin, the pigment that gives our skin its colour. This excess melanin can accumulate in certain areas of the skin, leading to the characteristic patches of melasma. While it is not harmful or contagious, melasma can be frustrating for those who experience it.
